The creation of a complex within a character is significant to the development of the character as a whole. Authors allow the reader to make assumptions about their character based on the two options created using this complex. After reading John Milton’s Paradise Lost, the creature of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein creates a complex within himself about whether he is evil, like that of Lucifer, or good, as if he was Adam. Of the two, the creature is more like the envious Lucifer in Heaven than that of a child like Adam in Eden. The creature displays more qualities of Lucifer; his abandonment, eternal suffering, and a vengeful attitude towards their creators. However, he displays the newborn and solitary qualities that Adam possesses. Mary Shelley’s creature is most like the envious Lucifer, whose creator struck from Heaven for his envy. Being cast from Heaven, Lucifer is permitted to do as he pleased while God went about his business. When viewing his creature, Victor Frankenstein felt the urge to also leave his monstrous being. Abandoning the creature left him in the same situation as Lucifer. â€Å"Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room, and continued a long time traversing my bedchamber, unable to compose my mind to sleep† (Shelley 43). I Hope You Dance Free Essays

I hope you dance â€Å"And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. † (Sillers,2010, ll. 8. This amazingly, inspirational song was written by Tia Sillers when she was at her breaking point, sitting on the beach just after going through a heart wrenching divorce. It really is peculiar that such an inspirational and beautiful song such as â€Å"I hope you dance† was written at such a devastating time. As she sat beside the ocean, pondering on all that she been through, she realized, things aren’t so bad. She interprets this in her lyrics by saying â€Å"I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean. † (Sillers,2010, l. 5) â€Å"I hope you dance† is unmistakabley pulled from deep within Siller’s soul. Anyone who hears this song, and truly takes these lyrics to heart could undoubtedly pull themselves out of whatever strife they may be going through at any given time. With Mrs. Siller’s inspirational words, she truly has created the most breath taking song of our time. I have a very deep understanding of this song because â€Å"I hope you dance† has helped me through some extremely difficult times. I was homeless at the age of sixteen and ready to give up on the world when I first heard this song playing over the radio. With the help of Sillers words I was able to find the inspiration inside myself and keep going to school even if it meant sacrificing a day of pay from missing work. I knew that although things would be extremely difficult to attempt to be able to work enough hours to get my own place and attend high school on a regular basis, but with the help of her words I found the motivation within myself to give it my all. After three months I had saved enough money for the deposit and first month’s rent and my grades we’re decent enough for me to graduate on time with the rest of my peer’s. Now that I am more stable things have become less difficult, but whenever I am having a hard time, I simply go to you tube and listen to Siller’s song. I hope you dance† has undoubtedly shed light on an endless number of suffering souls. â€Å"Don’t let some Hellbent heart leave you bitter, when you come close to selling out reconsider. † (Sillers, 2010, ll. 15. 16. )Those lyrics convey the struggle life can throw at a person, but they are also telling them to never give up. Tia was trying to reach into the hearts of all the suffering souls out there, and try to get them to look at the bigger picture. â€Å"May you never take one single breath for granted. (Sillers, 2010, l. 3) Tia was trying to get the point across that life is a gift, and to simply sit it out and let it pass you by could be a tremendous mistake that no one can ever take back. She also indicates this in like thirteen: â€Å"Livin might mean takin chances, but they’re worth takin. † (Sillers, 2010, l. 13. ) Throughout life there are many obstacles to overcome, and not every road you take will be a smooth one, but the bumpiest road, will often lead you to the greenest field. Siller’s showed an understanding for this by writing â€Å"I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance. Never settle for the path of least resistance. † (Sillers, 2010, ll. 11. 12. ) Every successful person has had to struggle in life, but with struggle, comes satisfaction. If every person was able to listen to this song, but not just listen, understand this song, I feel as though statistics such as the high school drop-out rate, or the college drop-out rate would decrease. Giving up would simply not be an option. Sometimes we all need a little inspiration, something to get us motivated and focused on the bigger picture. Life is about making mistakes, Siller’s portrays this perfectly by saying â€Å"Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens. † (Sillers, 2010, l. 6. ) Although doors may close, and devastation may take a toll on a person’s life, one needs to be able to pick themselves back up, and open another door, but not just for the sake of moving, but for their own satisfaction. If â€Å"I hope you dance† was listened by everyone at least once a day, people would be able to find it in themselves to pick themselves up and keep moving forward, for with every step one takes forward is another step closer to their ultimate goal of success. The real estate industry of Kuwait is highly leveraged where the average net debt to equity ratio is almost 93.05%. The authority has made several positive progress for growth of real estate market as Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) setting up of Real Estate Investment Authority and assigning KWD 1.05 billion in fund to be set up Kuwait Finance House (KFH). There has also been signing of contract with Markaz for managing real estate investment portfolion of KWD 255.00 million. Housing loans has been projected to increase by KWD 0.04 million from Saving and Credit Bank (SCB). Along with these there are several more initiatives undertaken for attempting to revive the housing se ctor. Factors that affect demand and supply for housing in Kuwait Demand for housing in Kuwait is relatively elastic demand that is impacted by various factors. The demand for housing is dependent on incomes of individuals, growth prospects of the country, availability of loans and so on(Alshalfan, 2013). The following are some factors influencing housing sector of Kuwait as; Kuwait Economy: While the demand of residential housing sector in the real estate has picked up but there is a gradually slow increase in commercial housing. Changes in interest rates: The governmental constraints post the financial crisis have affected demand and supply of housing with imposition of new regulations(Alissa, 2009). Credit facility availability: Laws in Kuwait prohibit foreign companies from owning lands or homes in Kuwait, due to which companys role in real estate development has been prohibited. There are a number of banks that are offering loan facility to housing sector growth though in the past growth has been sluggish in nature. Population Growth: There is a positive correlation between population growth and rise in demand of housing in Kuwait(Burton, 2015). The population growth in the country has been estimated to be at 2.35% in the recent years which has influenced steady investment from indigenous as well as expatriate population of Kuwait. Rent-Control policy implemented in Kuwait Steady growing population in Kuwait in past years has forced government to increase housing availability in the country. It has been estimated that approximately 29,000 housing units for 39,500 people are getting built in South Muthlaa, but there is a growing complaint regarding the housing availability in the country(AlMatar). The current situation persisting in regards to rent is terrible that has caused hiking of rents without prior information or renewal of contract and no dispute settling procedures. The rent control policy in the country is very bleak and with unavailability of housing landlords is pushing up rents and reviewing contracts without any notices. Tenants face immense number of issues in their tenancy agreement that has hampered the overall growth and development of housing in the country. There is minimum implication from rent control policy which has led to shortage of housing in the country. Rental contracts are not treated seriously by landlords which results in advocacy of such agreements. National Development Plan has aimed to restructure the State of Kuwait for settling 2.5 million people from the urban area till 2030(El-Katiri, 2011). The government along with the Public Authority for Housing Care aims to provide residential towns and cities outside of Kuwait for betterment of communities in the region. There is a limited number of houses that offers housing, further the rents are very high compared to that of ordinary rents. Apartment rent rates are determined on ad-hoc basis that is based on location, demand for that specific housing and so on(Auty, 2007). The dwelling of tenancy by tenure has been separated and analyzed but to find no links that can establish the connection between rental rates and housing availability. At current rates the rental situation of the country is not at all sustainable that has led to serious issues amongst the general population. Thus, there has been an upsurge in government intervention leading to formation of steady contracts in rent that can be established. Though there are number of let out apartments but they often hesitate to provide them at rents creating an imbalance between demand and supply. With housing for all the demand in rental apartments will steady attain a balance creating steady growth for the rental markets. With the housing marke ts further stabilizing the rental situation in the country is expected to benefit and emerge as a suitable avenue for earning for many individuals residing in the country. Conclusion There is a high amount of positivism expected from the Kuwait housing sector with stabilization of political aspects. Total of 91% unused space in Kuwait remains unoccupied that can be used for tourists development and add to growth of real estate business. The bank interests rate have also been marginalized to a great extent that has revitalized performance in the sector and lead to improvement of KIA portfolio. The housing sector is expected to increase at a rate of 11% annually at an average rate provided the levels of investment and growth. However, in light of the readings, this approach to art fits neatly, if bizarrely, into a progression of thought and practice over the middle decades of the 20th Century. Career profile research assignment

Career profile research assignment I chose to be a social worker. I chose this job because, in social work, every day is completely different.You may try and plan exactly what you want but you can bet that there will be many unexpected challenges to deal with each week. Social work constantly keeps you on your toes. It’s not a regular job because at any point during the day, you may receive a phone call that requires you to drop everything and go to the scene of a emergency. You visit homes, schools, hospitals and community centers. Being a social worker means engaging with the community and this cant be done from behind a desk. This job would be a good fit for me because I’m very interested in it and what they do help our community. I have a strong passion for this because just hearing about global issues and the struggles some people go through just makes me want to help them and try and find ways to make their lives better. Social work officially originated in the 19th century as a movement primarily experienced within the United States and United Kingdom. After the collapse of feudalism, people in poverty were seen as a direct threat to the social order, so the government formed something called Poor Law and created a system to provide care to them. As the Industrial Revolution sparked great leaps in technological and scientific advancements, the migrations to urban areas throughout the western world led to increased social problems and social activism. During this time, rescue societies ( later known as social workers), were to provide support to resolve the problems of poverty, disease, prostitution, mental illness, and other issues. Social workers identify people and communities in need of help such as veterans, the elderly, the mentally ill, and abused children They assess the needs, situations, strengths, and support networks of various individuals to find solutions to their problems Social worker s help clients adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, adoption, substance abuse, grief, divorce, or unemployment. Social workers respond to crisis situations such as mass shootings, disasters, child abuse, and mental health emergencies. They follow up with clients to ensure their situations have improved. Social workers help individuals, families, and groups manage difficult and stressful situations. A group of social workers often meet to have a â€Å"case consultation† regarding a child in care. Social workers meet with clients and others involved in a case to assess the situation and select a plan of action. Staying on top of new policies and laws is important, social workers meet together and with other colleagues to discuss updated government policies and review reports. Social workers often have to hear and observe sensitive material and situations. Making visits and phone calls to foster homes, parents, the police, and other agencies is commo n for social workers. It is important that social workers keep accurate records and detailed notes about each case. Filing these documents is all in a day’s work. Some disadvantages of being a social worker are investing your feelings in a case/client could have you feel emotionally dead, this happens if you find it difficult to separate your personal life from your job. Social workers are not one of the top-earning careers, you have to really, really do it for the love of it, it is a secure income but many social workers live an average financial life. With all the paperwork and difficult cases, many social workers are overworked. Combined with low pay, that’s a very big con for this job. Some advantages are social workers can choose among a variety of specializations, such as child and family, schools, health care, mental health and substance abuse. They select among employers, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, the military, mental health clinics and substance abuse clinics. Social workers help people cope with mental or physical illness, unemployment, divorce, poverty, addiction, abuse, and discrimination, according to the National Association of Social Workers. Sample tasks including helping clients get access to support groups, healthcare and government assistance, such as Medicare and food stamps. Most social workers get a full-time income, but their wages vary with the specialty and type of employer. The number of jobs for all social workers will grow by an average of 25 percent between 2010 and 2020, faster than for most jobs. Some possible issues that come along with this job are some social workers tend to mix their personal life with their job. The average salary for a Social Worker is C$49,949 per year in Canada. Some locations of where social workers usually are and their employer include government departments, school boards, mental health clinics, and community health and social service agencies They also work in offices, but travel to meet with clients and attend meetings. Usually, on a regular week, they work 40 hours, sometimes including evenings and weekends. Social work license requirements vary on where you live. Most places require the licensure exam and follow up social work license verification. Also requires a criminal background check during the application process. The Social Service Worker Certificate program is designed if you want to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the field of social services or to upgrade your current position in the social work field. This program offers courses in social work theory and practice, counseling skills, lifespan development, social services and social science. Through a combination of online theory courses, you learn about situations to prepare yourself for possible experience’s throughout your career. The work that social workers do is hard because you interact with so much pain and sadness. Whatever field the social worker is in, they end up connecting with a lot of difficult experiences. Also, some kids may not want to open up to a social worker, or anyone for that matter, about their problems. This is a huge issue because some social workers don’t open up a good environment or they don’t present themselves as caring and ready to help . This is rare, but still a problem. As a secondary student, I can prepare myself by taking courses that will help me get into certain University programs and what they look for. Also when looking at programs, I can make sure the courses that are being looked at, have high grades. Participating in school activities help me for the future, it looks good on a resume and also it gives you experience. In conclusion, after researching about this career, I have decided to continue on this path because social work allows you to go after a passion for social justice. If you feel like helping people or you start to see those who have not been born with the privilege that others have from a different point of view, becoming a social worker is one of the most effective ways of doing something to help. Working with all kinds of people who struggle for rights and resources, from the poor and homeless to immigrants to the LGBT community, social workers speak and have a voice for those who can’t make decisions, or aren’t prepared financially or children who’ve had a rough life. Social work is honestly just putting people who have been through a lot more than you, above your issues and helping out in your community and the feeling that YOU helped have a positive impact on someones life is probably the most amazing feeling in the world. Assessment involves performance of both external and internal situational analysis, self evaluation and competitor analysis at micro-environmental and macro-environmental level. All business decisions taken are based on organizational and personal values, therefore the strategy should be developed after analysing the organizational and personal values. It allows the strategy development team to have a broader view of organization and its functioning and also includes the analysis of organization’s structure and culture, operating philosophy , personal and organizational values and stake holders. This value assessment is also important because if the strategy plan is not based on the functioning of organization and any party in the organization feels that their values have been neglected they will not adopt the strategy and thus the potential benefits will not be obtained. Moreover, at this phase, an indept analysis of organization’s internal strengths and weaknesses alongwith the external opportunities and threats are made, which is also known as swot analysis. According to Michael Porter, a Harvard Business School professor, competition within an industry is driven by five basic factors such as: Threat of new entrants that probably reduces the high profits, Threat of substitute products or services that can reduce the demand of the organizations product significantly, Bargaining power of suppliers can increase the cost of production, Bargaining power of buyers may force the organization to cut down the prices to maintain their market share and Rivalry among existing firms may result in wastage of resources. Porter also indicates that, in response to these five factors, competitive strategy can take one of the three generic forms: Focus, Differentiation and Cost leadership. The reason why strategic plans fail at this stage is failure of strategy development team to understand their customers that what their needs are and the reason why they buy and inadequate marketing research. Another reason for such failure is the inability of strategy development team or management to predict their competitor’s counter strategies such as price wars and fighting brands and actions taken by government in such circumstances [5]. The second phase of the strategy development process involves the setting of goals and objectives for the organization. Goals are the desired future state of organization , which are derived from from the vision and mission statements and are consistent with oranizational culture, ethics and regulatory requirements. Goals are quantifiable and are to be achieved within a specified time period, there should be no confusions regarding the goals and ideally there should be one well defined goal. Objectives are the short term intermediate/secondary goals that are achieved in order to achieve the primary goals. In order to set the objectives effectively objectives are needed to be categorized, prioritized, balanced, limited, quantified and must be challenging and attainable as well. In order to clarify what the management targets are strategy development team will categorize the objectives and targets will be based on the categories made. Some broad categories where an organization wishes to set their business strategy could be: Financial, Operations, Sales and Marketing, Human resource, Community. Financial objective may be set to measure profitability like: gross profit, operating profits or return on investments. Operational objectives might measure efficiency, productivity or cost reductions [7]. Sales and Marketing objectives may be in terms of sales volume, sales growth or market share. Human resource objectives might be the measure of employee benefits, employee satisfaction or employee turnover. Finallly the social or community objective might be the compliance with laws rearding environmental hazards, equal opportunity employment. The order in which managers generally prioritize their objectives is based on the hierarchy of objectives, that is it is the order in which they care about things. It is this behaviour that causes goal conflict between two different departments within an organization [12]. For example sales department want to maximize their profit and the usually achieve their targets by raising prices which is in conflict to the objectives of production department, therefore strategy development team must consider the objectives which are confliccting in nature and involve senior management of all departments in order to minimize goal conflict. There should be balance in setting goals, if more attention is given to particular areas only there will be a problem when communicating goals to people in organization. Those who are not considered in the objectives will be less motivated and for successful achievement of objectives efforts of all the people in organization is required. strategy development team should consider gaining the commitment of employees who might otherwise ask about their benefit. Further more, care is required for not setting to many objectives and quantification. Setting many objective results in wasting time when setting such many objectives and also shifts focus away from high prirority targets, which results in loss of resources. Objectives should be quantified, that is when objectives are accomplished it should be measurable in order to know whether they are successfully accomplished. More importantly, it should be clear to every one that how much effort is required which is measured when targets are achieved [3]. Quantifying objectives depends on the category of the objective, that is Financial, Sales and Marketing objectives are the easiest to quantify. Whereas, quantifying customer satisfaction is not possible in many cases although number of complaints can be counted or total defective products can be measured [14]. Finally, objective should be challenging and, at the same time, attainable. Strategy development team must know the capabilities of employees of the organization and this fact must be considered when objective is given to them. People in organization should understand that accomplishment of the objective requires that it should be done but such objective should be achievable. During this phase strategy plans fails because of over estimation of resource competence that the staff and other resources were unable to handle the new strategy or the required level of managerial skills were not developed. Coordination failure due to inadequate reporting or rigid organization structure is another reason for such failure. Another problem is failure to obtain employee commitment, when strategies are not properly explained to them or new strategy lack incentives given to the customer. The final phase is the implementation of strategic plan after which it is put to work for an organization. The success of the plan is the support of every member of the organization, which is possible due to the involvement of senior management from the beginning of strategy development process [4]. After acceptance, implementation of the strategic plan into daily activities increases the chances that others will do the same. Strategic plan can be implemented by allocating sufficient resources in the form of financial support, support should also be provided by the higher management personnel in the form of provision of company’s resources that are necessary, proper technical and technological support should be given for successful implementation of the developed strategy. Structure of the organization should be in accordance with the strategy that is; either there could be chain of command or cross-functional teams in the organization. Resposibilities should be assigned only to the individuals or groups that are qualified for that particular task or process. Each and every process should be controlled effectively which includes monitoring of results, comparing the results with the organization’s as well as industry standards, effective and efficient use of resources must be evaluated and required adjustments should be made to the processes in order to contol the variances. One tool available for this purpose is making GAP analysis to to identify the methods for closing the performance gap (variations). Such analysis must be done, without making it much complicated, by simply investigating the differences in achieved results and the the desired results. Feasibility of removing the deviations can be made by evaluating the answers of two questions that what is required to be done and what is not required to be done [8]. Thus for implementing such programs, required resources must be acquired, there should be proper process development and training anlog with their testing and documentation. One another way to successfully implement the strategic plan is advertising. The more the employees hear about the plan, its element and success along with the plan, the greater will be the possibility of adopting it as a part of daily work. It became more significant if the benefits offered are measurable [6]. A sound strategy development process should also prepare a contingency plan and the reason for such planning is to make a reactionary plan for unanticipated high impact events† [2]. Contingency plan identifies the indication that calls for the need to reevaluate the applicability and effectiveness of current strategy. The reason why strategic plans collapse is a definite redirection from the initial plan, primarily because, as the time passes by there is a major change in direction from the one, which was set at the initiation stage. Since the implementation is a key to proper supervision, not tracking the progress of plan and no accountability on non-compliance is another reason for such failure. One other reason of not successfully implementing the plan is failure to manage change, as strategy development team did not do proper planning, as there may be inadequate understanding of internal resistance to change and failure to understand the relationship between processes, technology and organization. Not making the contingency plan is also another reason for the failure to successful achievement of objective because; in case of unforeseen circumstances no body will be able to run the alternative procedures, which would have been available if contingency planning was done. Strategy determines the long term objectives and goals and also allocates the resources more effectively. Involvement of senior management make process of strategy making more effective and smooth. Strategy making not only considers the three basic questions regarding the operations of organization but also give answer to these question. Strategy development process is a three phased process in which first the assessment of situation is made considering the environmental, internal and external challenges, then setting objectives by keeping in view the assessed circumstances and the requirements and then finally ways in which such objectives can be achieved by implementing the plans made by strategy department.

The Perfect Woman: Rousseau and Wollstonecraft Essay --

If scholarship is done right, it is that which is done impartially. The topic of this paper, the perfect woman, written by a man, may give those with prejudgments a ready answer to it; without the due analysis required by it. Reading both authors now, it is easy to bash Rousseau with sexism and stamp Wollstonecraft with feminism. But such was not my task, rather I examined both with an unprejudiced eye to the best of my ability. Thus, I hope the same is reciprocated by my reader, and take my interpretations and criticisms with the same impartial mind. To begin, then, my argument, I assert that although Rousseau and Wollstonecraft effect disparate views on the best education for women, the supposed disagreement of their model of the perfect woman is specious; their concept of the human species and its purpose is truly in contention. It is imperative to outline such mode of education regarded by each as the best to raise a woman. Since Wollstonecraft critiques much of Rousseau’s, I begin with his model. â€Å"Everything is good as it leaves the hands of the author of things; everything degenerates into the hands of man,† is the first line of Book I in Rousseau’s Emile or On Education (161). Emile is not a book for a social system of education, but one specifically for the â€Å"tender and foresighted mother, who [is] capable of keeping the nascent shrub away from the highway and securing it from the impact of human opinions†(162). Analysis on Causes and Symptoms of Job Stress in the Workplace

Job stress poses a significant threat to employee health and consequently to the health of an organization. This report will provide information on the causes of stress, the resulting symptoms, the consequences to employers, and the programs employers can implement to reduce the adverse effects of stress in the workplace. It is important for both employees and employers to recognize and understand stress and its causes. Often times employers confuse job challenges and job stressors. Most employees view a job challenge as a motivating factor, which enables them to grow within their positions. This motivation has the potential to produce positive results for both employees and employers. However, when challenges become demands, employees often resort to the fight or flight response of our primal ancestors. At the sight of a dangerous encounter, the hypothalamus sends a message to the adrenal glands and within seconds the heart is pumping at two or three times the normal speed, sending blood to the major muscle groups with soaring blood pressure. In most cases, the employee does not have the opportunity to fight or flee, and as a result the increased energy is internalized and over time manifests itself as stress. Stress is not an illness, however prolonged exposure to stressful conditions can increase the risk of injury or disease. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health ( ¡Ã‚ §NIOSH ¡), job stress can be defined as â€Å"the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the employee†. For instance, management style, interpersonal relationships, work roles, career concerns, work-life issues, sociocultural atmosphere, and environmental conditions may all be considered stressors. The following illustrations represent extreme cases, but a common thread between all of the examples is lack of communication, lack of resources, and lack of control. Typically, people are affected by an assortment of these stressors and at a variety of levels. Many employees suffer from stress caused by managers who expect results without establishing clear goals. An example would be an office head that is responsible for increasing profitability and decreasing overhead, without receiving a budget from the home office. At the end of the year, the office head's performance cannot be considered objectively. Consequently, his or her incentive compensation becomes subjective. Interpersonal Relationships In many organizations, workers have little decision-making power. For example, a customer service representative is responsible for fielding incoming calls. Inevitably, the calls are primarily from angry customers concerned about a late shipment. The representative has no control over the shipping department and in fact has virtually no communication with that department. After listening to the customer's complaints over a period of time, the representative has several suggestions which management could implement in the shipping department that may improve customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, management is not interested in the ideas of a customer service representative. And as a result, the representative is attacked daily by angry customers whose concerns could have been prevented. Work Roles Some employees suffer from stress caused by excess responsibility and a shortage of time. An example of which might be a salesperson who has a broad scope of responsibilities with little support and a full travel schedule. In many instances, the salesperson is unable to meet unrealistic reporting deadlines because of excessive travel. Career Concerns Other employees may stress about an impending reorganization and its potential consequences. For example, management hires a consulting firm to evaluate departmental effectiveness and profitability. The employees may feel that management views their work as substandard and is formulating a reduction in forces plan which could ultimately affect their jobs. Work-Life Issues Often workplace stress is caused by balancing personal and professional responsibilities. For example, a nurse who also has to care for an aging, dependant parent. Sociocultural Atmosphere Some employees are subjected to an atmosphere of gender bias and/or sexual harassment. For example, a woman works as a real estate broker, which is a male-dominated field. She is constantly subjected to sexual innuendo. She is even made to look incompetent in client meetings by her male counterparts who ask ridiculous and irrelevant questions. Environmental Conditions Employees are required to perform in adverse working conditions which often cause signs of stress. For instance, a mill worker is subjected to the constant humming of machines. Repeated exposure to stressful situations such as those mentioned above often cause symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, irritability, and boredom. Other warning signs may include upset stomach, job dissatisfaction, muscle tension, and low morale. Studies have shown that stress in the workplace has been linked to some of the leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, workplace accidents, cirrhosis, and suicide. According to the Encyclopedia of Occupational Safety and Health, studies suggest that psychologically demanding jobs which allow employees little control over work process increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also widely believed that job stress produces an increased risk of back and upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Furthermore, several studies suggest that a variety of mental health problems, from burnout to depression, have been linked to job stress. Although more studies are needed, it has become a mounting concern that on-the-job injuries are on the rise due to job related stress. According to the Journal of Occupations and Environmental Medicine, healthcare expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress. Furthermore, the American Institute of Stress estimates that more than 75% of all doctor visits are for stress-related complaints or disorders. People also spent nearly $11 billion last year on stress management programs, products and services. Although stress poses a variety of health concerns to individuals, organizations also suffer its consequences. According to the National Safety Council, it is estimated that one million workers are absent on an average workday because of stress related complaints. Furthermore, to the American Institute of Stress reports that 40 percent of employee turnover is related to job tension. A study published in the Journal of Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice, found that when workers are under stress, they tend to lose their group perspective and focus on their own personal goals to the detriment of their colleagues. In a study of 100 naval personnel, each three-member group was subjected to a decision-making task simulation under varying stressful conditions. As expected, those operating under the highest level of stress performed worse than those operating under normal circumstances. Furthermore, the study indicated that the higher the stress level, the subject acted from a more individual perspective, which ultimately deteriorated team performance. In addition, the 1995 Workers Compensation Yearbook reports: In 1960, a Michigan court upheld a compensation claim by an automotive assembly-line worker who had difficulty keeping up with the pressures of the production line. To avoid falling behind, he tried to work on several assemblies at the same time and often got parts mixed up. As a result, he was subjected to repeated criticism from the foreman. Eventually, he suffered psychological breakdown. By 1995, nearly one-half of the States allowed worker compensation claims for emotional disorders and disability due to stress on the job [note, however, that courts are reluctant to uphold claims for what can be considered ordinary working conditions or just hard work] (NIOSH). Given that job stress is estimated to cost U. S. industry $300 billion annually as assessed by absenteeism, diminished productivity, employee turnover, and consequently legal fees and insurance premiums, it is important for employers to implement programs that promote a low stress atmosphere in the workplace. The American Psychologists Association recommends the following organizational changes to help prevent job stress:    Other elements of a healthy company include open communication, employee involvement, health-enhancing work environments, community responsibility, and institutional fairness. Many companies have taken a variety steps to promote this type of atmosphere. For example, Harley-Davidson, the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer, implemented the use of work groups in its Capital Drive plant in 1995. Since then, there has been a â€Å"steady decline in worker's compensation claims† which resulted in higher profits for the company. According to John Gillard, president of PACE Local 7-0209, workers feel they have more control over their jobs because they have a voice in day-to-day operations. Honeywell offers employee assistance counselors and stress management classes. The Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago, has a on-site massage therapist once a week, while National Semiconductor of Santa Clara, California provides an on-site fitness center that offers yoga and karate among other things. While some companies suffer the consequences of stress in the workplace, others like Massachusetts based WFD, Inc. (â€Å"WFD†), profit from it. WFD offers innovative services that assist employers in facilitating the needs of their employees thereby producing measurable business results such as customer loyalty and satisfaction, revenues and profits and shareholder value. I believe that children who are’nt hungry do better on tests and focus more in school. Studies show that when children eat breakfist they do better in school. That’s true, but kids tend to get hungry right after breakfist. I think vending machines would be a good idea to have in schools; having vending machines would allow kids not to starve which willl cause children to focus in school.Well what about more trash on campus or too much children eating in class you wonder. Those issues can be easily resolved by putting more trash cans where children walk to their classes and also by the vending machine. I think the reason children don't focus in class when they're hungry is because they focus more on eating at lunch time instead of working on their classwork. If vending machines were at school, kids won't have to wait until l unch to buy food. Therefore kids won't be hungry during class, and they will focus more in school.You might think that kids will eat too much before lunch, but that's why I suggest we put a limit of how much you can buy. How can we do this you might ask? It's simple; by using children's school ID's to buy snacks would only lets them buy snacks three times a day. One of the most common issue is what will be in the vending machines. Most concerned parents are worried that schools would put a lot of unhealthy snacks such as cheetos, lays, chocolate, etc. Schools might put these things in the vending machines because it tastes good, and kids will buy them.I admit that it is true the majority of kids don't want to buy nutritious food because it doesn't taste good, but there are some other nutritous food like granola bars, fruit snacks, and many more. Parents will always try to think of new problems that concerns vending machines at school. I admit some problems the school might not be ab le to fix, but what matters most is it does more good than bad. I believe children that aren't hungry do better on tests and focus more in school.
